Hidrasec Sachet 30 mg contains Racecadotril, an antidiarrheal medicine used to reduce intestinal fluid secretion and manage acute diarrhea, particularly in children and adults. Manufactured by Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Ltd.

Uses of Hidrasec Sachet

Hidrasec Sachets are used as a symptomatic treatment for acute diarrhea, alongside oral rehydration therapy, to reduce fluid loss and shorten the duration of diarrhea.

Ingredients

Each sachet contains Racecadotril 30 mg, a prodrug that is metabolized to thiorphan, which inhibits enkephalinase enzymes in the gut, reducing intestinal hypersecretion.

Working of this Medicine

Racecadotril, the active component, works by preserving endogenous enkephalins (natural peptides) in the intestinal wall. These enkephalins help reduce secretion of water and electrolytes into the gut lumen without affecting normal motility. In this way, Hidrasec decreases diarrhea severity while allowing normal digestion to continue.

Dosage and Instructions

Always follow a doctor’s advice for dosage. The following is the general recommended dosing for children (as per standard guidelines for sachets).

Children 13 kg to 27 kg: 1 sachet (30 mg) three times daily.
Children over 27 kg: 2 sachets three times daily.
Administer until 2 normal stools are passed, but do not exceed 7 days of use.
Mix sachet contents in water or soft food immediately before use.

Precautions

Take care with Hidrasec sachets under certain conditions:

Use only in acute diarrhea; do not use for chronic diarrhea without medical supervision.
Ensure adequate oral rehydration concurrently.
Avoid in patients with severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalance unless corrected.
Consult doctor if diarrhea persists > 7 days or if blood in stool or high fever occurs.
Not studied in infants under 3 months; caution in hepatic or renal impairment.
